I decided to give Masi Nails a try because of the glowing reviews and the impressive designs featured on their Instagram. While the salon itself was clean and visually appealing, I unfortunately left feeling extremely disappointed with my experience and the final result.
I arrived early to my appointment, prepared with a nail design map. I initially requested a tortoise shell French tip with a solid tortoise shell accent nail and a gold chrome halo. I was told that wasn’t possible, so we pivoted to a nude base with the same accent nail. During color selection, I emphasized multiple times that as a lighter-skinned Black woman, traditional pink “nudes” often don’t suit my skin tone. Despite this, I was only shown a limited selection of colors and wasn’t given the opportunity to view the full range to make an informed choice.
As we moved on to nail prep, I noticed my middle finger tip was placed very crookedly. I pointed it out right away, but Masi insisted it would be fixed during shaping. I also made it clear from the beginning (and reiterated several times during the appointment) that I’ve always used acrylic and prefer it, but she encouraged me to try hard gel instead. I asked what the difference was and was told the only variation was in application—no mention of the intense heat or discomfort during curing. The pain from the gel curing process was immediate and sharp, and I wish there had been more transparency beforehand.
After application and shaping, the middle nail was still visibly crooked. When I asked for it to be redone properly instead of just filing it down to match, there was a lot of pushback and blame placed on the natural shape of my nail—which I know is not the issue. In the decade that I have been getting my nails done I have never had crooked or upward turned results. My nails and nail beds are uniform and have a symmetrical natural curve. Eventually, after some insistence, she did redo the nail however this time she used a tip too small for my nail and it is still off center.
By this point, I was beyond frustrated and strongly considered leaving. We moved on to the design, which turned out just okay—not bad, but definitely not worth the four hours it took to complete. I had originally booked a pedicure as well, but decided to skip it because I simply didn’t have the time (and, frankly, had lost all trust in the process).
When it came time to pay, I realized why there was so much insistence on using hard gel—there’s a clear price difference from acrylic, which was never disclosed upfront. While I understand pricing differences between materials, clients deserve full transparency when being upsold or encouraged to switch services.
Once home, I sent pictures to a friend who’s a nail tech. She immediately pointed out major concerns: there’s no apex structure in the nails, meaning they’re likely to snap with even minor pressure. The application is inconsistent, flooded gel in the cuticles, choppy cuticles, and the shaping is messy. Less than 24 hours later, the chrome gems have already dulled from gold to silver. I’m flying to Mexico in a day and simply don’t have time to get them fixed, which makes this all the more frustrating.
In short: the design is passable, but the quality, discomfort, lack of professionalism, and time it took make this a huge disappointment. I feel like I wasted my time and money, and I absolutely won’t be returning.

Manicure didn't last 3 days and destroyed my nails. Firstly, the colour was wrong and too light and when I pointed this out she told me it would dry darker...it didn't. The UV lamp died and they couldn't find another despite me being the only customer, when they eventually found one, I had to remind them to turn it on every single time I put my hand in. The gel peeled off without me pulling at it within 3 days despite me working in an office with no manual work etc. and my nails are so brittle and grated now. It's been a month since I had the appointment and my nails still haven't recovered, they have seriously damaged my nail beds. They also charged me more than advertised as the price chart in the salon did not match their site at the time of my appointment in December. I would actively avoid this establishment.

I just moved to the area and wanted to find a nail salon close to home. I’ve been here twice now, the service is impeccable. She takes her time and my nails last. I didn’t feel rushed or like cattle. She is detailed oriented and kind.
